Error Probability Analysis of Multi-Carrier Systems Impaired by Receiver I/Q Imbalance

چکیده
I/Q imbalance has been identified as one of the most serious concerns in the practical implementation of the direct conversion receiver architecture. In particular, at the reception of multi-carrier signals the achievable error rate is strictly limited by the I/Q imbalance. Knowledge about the quantitative link between the hardware parameters and the resulting error rate is essential for a reasonable design of the receiver front-end. In this paper a framework for the analytical computation of the symbol error probability in multi-carrier systems is presented. We consider an arbitrary M-ary QAM modulated multi-carrier signal, which is corrupted by both a noisy frequency-selective Rayleigh fading channel and receiver I/Q imbalance. The theoretical results are validated exemplarily for the IEEE 802.11a WLAN standard.

We present a methodology for OFDM link capacity and bit error rate calculation that jointly captures the aggregate effects of various real life receiver imperfections such as: carrier frequency offset, channel estimation error, outdated channel state information due to time selective channel properties and flat receiver I/Q imbalance. Since such an analytical analysis is still missing in litera...

In this paper, we study the channel estimation in the presence of the receiver in-phase and quadrature-phase (I/Q) imbalance and carrier frequency offset (CFO) for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems using pilot symbols. The concept of channel residual energy (CRE) [9] is used to solve the joint estimation problem. By minimizing the CRE, we can jointly estimate the receive...
متن کاملNew I/Q imbalance modeling and compensation in OFDM systems with frequency offset
In this paper, a new model and compensation scheme of quadrature imbalance in analog I/Q OFDM transceivers is presented. Classically, the effect of I/Q imbalance is modeled by a cross-talk between pairs of symmetrical OFDM sub-carriers. We show that this model is not valid when the carrier frequency offset is compensated after the source of I/Q mismatch. Assuming a perfect digital compensation ...

Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO)-orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) scheme has been considered as the most promising physical-layer architecture for the future wireless systems to provide high-speed communications. However, the performance of the MIMO-OFDM system may be degraded by in-phase/quadrature-phase (I/Q) imbalances caused by component imperfections in the analog fro...
